Aside from being an attractive garden plant with a strong
cinnamon aroma and flavor, Cinnamon Basil is used in Mediterranean and Middle
Eastern cuisine adding spicy flavor to cooked foods. The bushy, 18”-24”
(45-60cm) plants are easy to grow. Don’t forget to use stalks to add fragrance
to cut flower arrangements. Incidentally, the common spice cinnamon does not
come from cinnamon basil, but you knew that.
Select a sunny location and sow it as soon as soil can be worked. Firm soil
over seed and keep moist. For an earlier crop, start seeds indoors. Basil
makes an attractive potted plant indoors or out. Cut off stems just before
flowers open, strip leaves, and use fresh or dry. To dry, place leaves on a
tray in a dark, well ventilated place. Leaves may be frozen.
