- Once established, this hardy perennial (Heliopsis) reliably blooms all
summer. The sturdy three-foot plant puts on a brilliant show of yellow,
daisy-like flowers 2-4" in diameter. When sown from seed, Summer Sun
blooms late in its first year, the plant's habit and blooming are much better
the second year and thereafter.
Prepare soil in a sunny spot and sow about the time of the last frost when
weather has warmed. Seedlings and small plants will turn yellow if the
temperature drops below 58°F. The little sunflower-like seeds are easy
to grow where the plants are to grow. If the young plants become too
tall, pinch them back to the second node. Remove flowers from the plants
as they fade, or leave them on to harvest seed.
